Spanish I introduces students to language basics and culture. Unit themes include friends, school, family, shopping, home life and sports. Pronunciation, functional vocabulary related to thematic units, cultural information and basic grammatical structures are stressed. Emphasis will be on the acquisition of four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The purpose of Spanish I is to give the students the ability to carry on a simple conversation in the target language.
